Yes, the Santanoni TH is on the left, just after Lake Sanford, and approximately one mile before the parking area and TH for Allen. Unless the Santanoni parking area looks driveable, hikers park on the shoulder of the main road.

6AM? I'll be sure to be well rested so I can rise sometime before 5 to be ready! I'm looking for just Santanoni, and maybe Panther again, but I don't plan on revisiting Couchsachraga. -Bob

P.S. In November '03, I left a multi-colored line tied to a tree on the path to Couchy, at a point where the path seems to drop over a cliff  . I found a much easier and safer way down (to the right of this spot), but couldn't locate that rope when I returned. I've heard reports that the rope is still there. PLEASE remove that old line if you happen to come across it! :D

Thanks for the detail.

I remember the rope! I went around it too! :D

To quote Captain Sheridan on Babylon 5: "Abso-freaking-lutely!" :D

That translates to YES!!! :D

Do you want to stay at Aunt Polly's or just meet us at the trailhead ?

Tom, I'd be interested in going if there's more room, when do I have to let you know?...CF

Sorry, i apologize, I mixed up the dates and I think i'm going on that cornell trip...maybe next time..

Last time I hiked Couch in the winter the parking area was not plowed, so parking was at the side of the road. 6am is a good target start time.
Anyone wanting to carpool up from the NYC/Hudson Valley area and sleep in a car overnight let me know.

How long is the road walk to the true trail head ?

143 feet.

If you're talking about having to park in the road, vs getting into the parking area.

Just a thought. If there'll be a big gang going there that day, think of car-pooling. That parking lot stands a good chance of not being plowed (big 4WD can handle it, though), and there isn't THAT much room along the road.

Whatever you do (royal 'you', not you-Tom) don't block the road. Some of us will be going all the way to the end that day.

Where We will sleep....

Hi Tom.

Because We will be slower hikers, We will go early at the parking and try to stay with the tail people when all passed us.... :D

The plan is We will stay at the base camp and start with your group at the sunrise!

Thank You Tom We will confirm early in this week.

Pinpin Junior. ;)

Ah, ha! I think we can manage it! :D I had forgotten how short it was.

As for car pooling, absolutely! I assume the folks staying at the B&B will carpool as much as is practical, and I invite the rest of you to carpool with us as well. I will make sure with the owner that we can do that, but if they have a house that sleeps 11 people, I assume there will be ample parking.

1. HA! I'll bet!

2. 'base camp' - do you mean you want to stay at the B&B ? (Actually, we are leaving before sunrise!)

3. If you are planning to stay at the B&B, you'd better let me know soon. And does 'we' mean 1 person and 1 rabbit, or more than one person? :D

I just found out that my son has a soccer tournament on Saturday 25th, will anyone be hiking on Sunday 26th?

I haven't officially received my work schedule for that weekend, so Sunday is a possibility. It will be a couple more weeks 'til I firm up those days.

I need someone to hike Santanoni with; the only time I'll see Alain is at the trailhead, and as he passes me on his way back out!

For me, Sunday is either the backup date, or the 'hike if I still feel up to it' date, so I have no firms plans for Sunday.

ALG
Lets wait and see. I'll start another thread closer to the date, keep your eyes open. I may post on adkhighpeaks.com

Tom
Cross me off the list for 2/25. If you climb Couch on Saturday you may want to try the easy climb of Santi and Panther on the Sunday?
