Hi, Gail and I are thinking of doing Allen this weekend and wondering what the stream crossings will be like..... how high would you guesstimate the water back there?:D:)

Thanks for all of your replies in advance, hope you're all having a great spring!

Bring a towel Fred.
You should have to removed your boots to cross the Opalescent river, and the water hight was +/-16" last weekend.

Have a good day to both of you.

The water crossing maybe the least of your problems as it has been warm days and nights of late and with the temperature rising even much more during the weekend you will likely find a very wet/soft snow cover to trek on. Plus up after Skylight Brook and up Allen Brook water is certainly running under the snow. At least it will be warm...:)

Thanks for your advice! Gail and I went to Jay Peak w Phil (Prino) instead. :)

The Boquet River went up about 3 feet Satruday afternoon, just from melting snow. By the way, did you find any snow left on on the Jay Range. A week ago we still found several feet on Slip on the "shady" side.

Christine,

We only had about 200ft (length not depth) of snow in 2 places on the north side of the ridge.
kneedepth It was a fun hike.

Know what you mean about the river rising rapidly.... we were going to go for a dip in the Ausable near Hulls falls but it was a raging torrent and nowhere safe to get in.
