trails: old logging road, bushwhack, skidder road
conditions: from the junction of rt. 16 and 26 in errol i drove about 3.5 miles west on 26 and took a right onto corser brook road (some maps show it as greenough pond road all the way from 26). i drove this road for just over 6 miles to its prominent intersection with greenough pond road and 4 mile brook road. road was in good shape and frozen hard. here i turned right onto 4 mile brook road and drove it for roughly 7.5 miles to a T intersection. this road is also in good conditions. here i turned right (the left road is a short spur i later used to access north crystal) and drove around another mile into an active logging area where i parked well off the road in a turnout. they were logging right where i had planned to start my hike up so i approached one of the loggers to make sure they were ok with my being there which they were. both of these roads are active haul roads right now so be ready to yield to to the trucks. as the slopes of west tucker were being logged i headed in a bit farther south than i had planned and got on a old logging road that the logger i talked to said was probably from around the 50's. it was quite wet in spots as it climbed along a brook eventually cutting up onto what used to be an atv track. i continued up through a series of old roads before taking a bearing up onto the highpoint. the going was a bit scrappy in spots with some steep pitches and some small cliffs to navigate up to the summit. having not visited the pond nestled below the peak on the way up i took a more direct line towards it on the descent and picked up some moose paths that led right to it. nice spot. i followed the partially frozen, but still quite swampy moose paths back down the drainage before picking up my ascent route choosing to follow the former atv track down to the active skidder road before dropping back down to the old log road.

comments: i nice start to a multi hike day. i was pleased to find corser brook and four mile brook roads in great shape as i had no idea what to expect. a neat summit and nice pond just below it. some great views from the open slopes to my next destination, north crystal.
