Monarch migration?

There is a pull off on Rte 302 south of Dry River Campground with a view to Washington. The field at the vista is full of wildflowers.

We pulled in there Tuesday and were delighted by dozens and dozens of Monarch butterflies. The purple asters were 4 feet high and evidently that was attracting the Monarchs. We also saw a number of them in a flower bed in N Conway.

When we got home I read on the web about the migration to Florida and Mexico - pretty amazing!

Saturday we found this fellow on the Crawford Path near Pierce.

Would you mind sharing what camera you have?

That's my new Canon SD800, but frankly, that's not a difficult photo to take. Put your camera in macro mode and get some good light and most cameras will be able to take a shot like that. PhotoShop post processing restored the colors to their original brightness.

We were working on the islands in Muscongus Bay in Maine over the weekend,and we were treated to the same sight. Dozens of monarchs around us.

Last Saturday we saw over 100, flying south over Lake George. We were sitting on West Dollar Island and there always several in view.

Don't know about migration, but there certainly are lots around the mountain meadows now.
