    Down Sleeping Bag Cleaning Service?

Just bought a great Marmot winter sleeping bag on eBay and now want to clean it. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time to spend hours at a laundromat. Anybody know of a cleaners in NH that specifically offers to clean down sleeping bags? Called a few climbing gear stores but they couldn't...

Mt Liberty via Liberty Spring Trail

Trail is packed snow from bottom to top with hardly any ice except for the quick rocky sprint to the summit. A trifle chilly; there were some worried-looking brass monkeys above the treeline:D

    A Death on Mount Shasta

I post this as I'm sure many who come to this forum have climbed this same route, myself included: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2008/12/02/2008-12-02_brooklyn_television_editor_chihiro_cherr.html She was the friend of a friend of mine and had only recently moved from Boston where...

Only found out tonight that there's a new season of Everest: Beyond the limit on the Discovery Channel on Tuesdays at 10pm. First episode was last week. Two members from last year's team are re-trying and the team is being managed, again from last year, by Russell Brice

    Bugs?

Is it me or are there a lot fewer annoying bugs this summer? I've camped twice and gone on various dayhikes this summer and have only had to use bug juice once. Am I just lucky or is something more sinister going on? Also, there seem to be a lot of frogs around this year...coincidence?

Something to Spark Discussion at the Christmas Dinner Table...

When the conversation around the Christmas pud and mince pies lags on Monday, feel free to discuss the following gleaned from a recent British hiking magazine: "Eccentric British Everest adventurer Maurice Wilson died on Everest apparently with a number of items of ladies underwear in his...

Mountain Hardwear Phantom jacket v. EMS Glacier Down

Christmas Comes But Once a Year... and I've been very good this year  so I might treat myself to a very packable, very light, very warm down jacket for emergency/winter camping use. Love MH stuff and their Phantom jacket fits the bill but it's more than twice the price of EMS's Glacier...

    Mount Major

I'm determined to get out there this weekend even if the wife's away and I'm on major baby-sitting duty. I want to bring the young kids (2,5, & 7) on a hike up Major (never been) but I'm wondering how steep and "slabby" the main trail is. The 2 year-old will be in a backpack so she's not a...

    Glen Boulder short-cut

Anybody ever made a short-cut from Glen Boulder trail directly west over to the Davis Path at Slide Peak? Wondering if the trails are above treeline at this point and thus an "easy" bushwhack so one can avoid having to ascend a further 400-500 ft before dropping down on Davis Path again to get...

    Additional Shoulder Padding

Would like to beef up the padding on my backpack's shoulder pads - going to be carrying some serious weight this summer and I bruise easily, delicate little flower that I am. I could just duct tape some foam on but I'm wondering if anybody knows of a kit that can be installed onto existing...

    Snow, snow, snow

I fear that we have seen the last significant snowfall till October. With that in mind may I propose that everybody who reads this forum do the following at exactly 9pm tomorrow: find a nice, quiet room; light a scented candle (anything but "potpourri"), kneel cross-legged on the floor; hold...
