How late into October/November are they open? Do they close like some of the huts?

The "lodge" is an open faced shelter. Not sure when it "officially" closes, but you can use them year round, they just stop collecting dough at some point. There's nothing to lock you out.

The backcountry facilities are open yearround. The caretaker leaves (and stops collecting fees) usually on Columbus Day weekend. The shelter (three walls and a partially enclosed 4th wall) is always open, as are the tent platforms.
