Date of Hike: Sunday 8 July 2012

Trail Conditions: Generally clear trails. Tiny bit of mud on Valley Way, but no blow-downs or other remarkable obstacles.

Special Equipment Required: None

Comments: Beautiful conditions, although generally windy (40-50 mph gusts) and somewhat chilly 45-50 degree summer conditions (not unusual) above treeline. Hat and windbreaker was recommended attire for afternoon above Hut. Might have preferred doing Upper Bruin cutover to Airline and then Gulfside Trail to Osgood, but our late arrival at VW/UB juncture (noon) and wind conditions persuaded us otherwise. I will say, that on several hikes I've noticed how the Valley Way seems to take forever when hiking out. Probably more that the enclosure by the forest canopy during the warmer months seems to isolate one from the mountain views more than some other trails.

All-in-all a great day to be above treeline - beautiful views and lots of sun, mixed with clouds racing by. Rather enjoyed the challenge of dodging gusts while hopping over and in-between broken talus on summit cone.
