Has anyone heard of or had any experience (preferably 1st hand) with two-strap snowshoes, sometimes referred to as "European style"? The MSR Lightning Ascents are available at several stores in a 2-strap model (example). They appear to be identical to the 3-strap model in every way except for the number of straps, and the price, which is significantly less expensive. They are sometimes marketed toward women, though they exist in both women's and men's model. Are they as secure as a three-strap model? The price difference is enticing, but I don't want to sacrifice safety.

Thanks.

Dick

Mine have lasted for over two years of frequent hiking without incident and the bindings are secure. If you're concerned about failure, you can pack a spare strap as they're easily field-replaceable.
