Maddi, it looks doubtful that the kids and I will be able to make it. :(

I was up there this weekend climbing Chapel Slab and next weekend is a trip to Roger's Rock. The ADK BBQ would make it three weekends in a row that I'd be gone and I'm not sure SWMBO would be jiggy wit dat.

Also, that Saturday is my daughter's birthday, and when I told her, "What better way to celebrate your birthday than by hiking in the Dacks?" she gave me the hairy eyeball in response (in that special way that pre-teens do...)

If, by some bizzare twist of fate, we can make it, we'll camp elsewhere and try to hook up with all y'all for the potluck.

Fran and I are planning on the "lesser" Dixes, weather permitting. Since we're doing as a day hike, we're giving ourselves the option of bailing out before Hough. Depends on how we're feeling and what time it is...don't want to miss out on too much of the bbq. ;)

I hope to spend the day getting to and fro to avalanche pass with my 10yr old maybe> or maybe something closer to the BBQ, anyone else have young kids coming..PM me if you'd like to plan something.

The campground is north of Lewis on Route 9. You can not miss it. If you miss it, you should probably have waited to start drinking.

Bring whatever you would like.

As I mentioned before dogs are allowed but they need to be leased-as most all campgrounds require.

A potluck is simply bring a small dish to share. We spread out all the food that everyone brings and we gorge ourselves into the next morning. Beer is good too.

Once you arrive, check in at the front desk and go from there. If we can figure out one good meeting place at the campsite we will let you all know. They are not charging us by the tent or by the site but by person. So if you want a tent mate go for it, if you can to pack in 20 tents in a 10x10 area, all the power to ya. The main office will give you direction to the mass sites we have reserved.

My plan on Saturday is to kayak across Paradox Lake and hike up Peaked Hill and bushwhack a small Mountain named Narrows Mountain. This is not an all day affair, so some extra paddling through the narrows might be in order. But we will put in at the West end of the lake if we can, if not at the boat launch at the state campground (may need to buy a day pass).

If are staying elsewhere, is there a fee to visit for a few hours?

I can't speak for managment but anyone that brings good beer is more than welcomed! ;):D

Does anyone know where my climbing strap is? I left it in Dicks & Joanne's car over a year ago winter time.

Sooooo...hikes. Paradox and I are planning to grab a couple of Great Range peaks on Friday. Haystack and Basin, most likely, although I'll try to convince him to throw Saddleback in the mix too. If anyone else is around for Friday, the more the merrier!

Saturday...some of us have talked about Algonquin, Iroquois and Wright if the weather is nice. I'll be flexible and if good ideas get thrown out on Friday night, that's subject to change.

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of new folks!

Rebecca

Left you a PM about a year ago saying I had it - perhaps you didn't see it.

It's old age creeping in. I thought it was you but wasn't sure. Thanks! See you then.

ok, I have to be in Newport RI for Wed and Thu of next week, would it be easier to just drive up from there, or to go back home to the Whites and come over from there?

Just found out about the trip and can't find my road atlas in my office...

Ok, and it would mean I would 'have' to take Friday off, oh the misery...

Any suggestions?

Given the dearth of east-west roads in NH and VT, I would say go straight from Newport to the Pike (Rte 146, maybe?) then west to Albany and I-87 north. It's that or I-90 west to I-91 north to I-89 north to Burlington to the ferry across Champlain. From where you live, it's either I-93 back to Concord to I-89, or 25 west to I-91 to I-89.

MJ is right - from Newport you would go over the bridges to 95N to Providence, to 146N to Mass Pike West to 87N.

ps: I'll see you in Newport after work for a beer or two....
