That's pretty impressive. Digital's been chipping away at large format territory for years and it looks like that battle's nearly over at this point.

I'd like to see them strap the 1200mm f/5.6 L onto a 488mp body just for the sheer absurdity of it all. Unfortunately, I rather doubt it'll have an EF mount. :p

Astronomers stick their sensors on mirrors with, for example, a minimum FL of 16,764 mm f/3.3 to a max of 152,400 mm f/30. The mirror only weighs ~40 tons, comes in its own building, and sits on a mountain instead of a tripod...



BTW, the above camera is the 200 inch Hale telescope on Mt Palomar...
diameter = 200 inches = 16.7 ft = 5,080 mm
FL min: 660 inches = 55 ft = 16,764 mm
FL max: 6000 inches = 500 ft = 152,400 mm)
