SilentCal- I see that Puck and Paradox have said they'll do Wildcat D as a last resort. My family (hubby, me and twin 15 year old sons) can do Wildcat D, with a caveat - my sons are autistic and while they're rugged hikers (they've done 21/48 thus far), we don't have a flag pole, and it may take us a while to figure out how to carry the pole up the hill. Sometimes the little things for them just take longer. - As long as you're OK with that, we'd love to help - I've been looking for a way to get involved with the Flags on the 48 event.
Just be aware that the observing platform is closed. It looks fairly unstable. Some of the floor boards are rotted out. If I were you, I would try to set up the flag at the top of the ski run.

The peaks list on the site may not reflect this but we've had a cancellation on Mt. Isolation.

So we are looking for any volunteers.

Please do not pm me about this, I'm leaving for vacation. Instead please PM "New Hampshire" if you think you can help us out.

Good luck and THANK YOU to everyone who is participating. I hope you guys get great weather and some nice breezes to get those flags moving. Don't forget to upload Pictures to the site afterwards.

Just a call to all musicians and vocalists that, as every FOT48 year to date, live music will be played atop Mt. Monroe during the noon to 2 p.m. "Flags on the 48" commemoration.

Vocalists are welcome to sing their favorite tune(s), and can be accompanied by musicians if you forward the tune name(s) and the key in which you prefer to sing the tune(s), or alternatively, reference a tune in a common songbook or email a songsheet.

Percussion, guitars, woodwinds, brass, vocalists of all types - you name it, just bring it along and let's put some passion into this event.

Patriotic, blues, anything goes, folks. Join us.

I knew very little about the Flags event and happened onto Munroe in 05..

It blew me away..the clarinet..people humming and swaying as the flag flew proudly and expertly in the breeze

The power and energy unbelievable..how could we possibly forget??

go guido!!

Hi out there, we need some help for Washington.

Specifically, we need someone who can drive Hugh and the kids up the Auto Road. Our Honda Civic won't be allowed on the Road, so we need another set of wheels.

We will happily pay for gas and the toll, of course.

We can rent if there are no other options. THought we'd check first to see if anyone else wants to go up there, and has room for an adult and two kids (and pole gear, which takes up almost no space).

Thanks, Trish

Lemmee guess, no low-gear available in the automatic? I'd do it if we had a bigger vehicle, but I've only room for one extra in the PT Cruiser. I'm trying to find a way to be up there for this (this kids want to see Marty the summit cat again). I hope someone can help out.

Trish, I can do it! I was thinking of driving up there to see ya'll anyway as you know I'm in no condition to hike Washington yet. Let me know if you still need someone and I can be there. Sorry I didn't see this post earlier in the day.

Reminder - 4 Days to go!

We will be supplying burgers and dogs and stuff, so if everybody who is staying or stopping by TarryHo brings something to share we will have feast!

There will also be 2 or 3 gas grills if you want to cook up something special for the group.

Reminder - if you still need a place to stay for one or more nights next weekend, TarryHo is offering group camping along the river for $8 per night/person. He also has private camp sites available for the standard price if you want to be away from the river and group.

We are located in site 17/19 - stop by and say hello when you arrive!

A few of us might do just that, stop by and say hello, on our way back from the east side to the southwest side. No need to "count" us though as we won't be staying too long.

Are you hiking Saturday ? Do you know when you might be back at 17/19 ?

Honda will pick up the tab for a coach ride if your Honda doesn't have low gear.
Last year there was an antique car show on Flags day. They wouldn't let anyone up the road until the show was done. May be worth a call to the office.

good to see everyone so enthusiastic this year and all plans are falling nicely in place. My father, trekman, decided early on that he wanted to do carrigain for this year's flags hike. I warned him that Carrigain would have to be my 48th peak in my quest for the holy list, so he decided to be coordinator this year in case I couldn't finish the other peaks before.. So 4 weeks ago I fought my way up bondcliff for #45, 2 weeks ago I did owl's head for #46, and sunday I completed isolation for #47. September 12th will be my 48th on carrigain. Weather is a bit iffy now for views, but I don't see myself postponing the hike due to weather. Can't wait to see people at this year's event and I hope everyone has a safe hike...with lots of pictures and a steady breeze.

Carrigain's going to be a busy place . I plan on also finishing on the 12th . Of course we're hoping for clear weather but will try to make it no matter what .
See you all there....!

Mtnpa and Tobit, thanks for that info.

I will probably end up carrying the flag and PVC pipes up myself, just in case something goes wrong with the Auto Road (weather, unforeseen event, whatever).

Since the Mooseland Grill in Twin Mtn burned to the ground several years ago, the FOT48 group has not really had a primary place to congregate on Saturday evening. I realize that some folks now stay at the KOA campground in Woodstock, and some may be gathering at a campground in Twin (see Bob and Geri's post above).

However, on Saturday night of the FOT48 event this year, Arthur James and his Northland band will be playing at Tony's Italian Grille in Woodstock (on east side of Rt. 3, just south of the Jack O'Lantern golf course and condos, only a few miles from the KOA campground on Rt. 175 across the Pemi River) beginning about 7 pm until ???. Arthur will be accompanied by his long-time sidekick Gil Rand on base, and my grade-school classmate Alan Phenix on drums, as well as Jackie Lee on vocals, and others from near and far. If you have an instrument, you might be invited to stand in for a tune or two?

From 5:30 to 6:30 pm, Andrew Pinard will be providing his "Absolutely Magic Show," which is always fun for kids. The event will be "out back" under and around the big tent. This gig is part of an event with food provided, so please bring a pot luck side dish or donation. NO BYOB, but definitely BYOC (bring your own chair). Also, please leave pets at home, as they will not be allowed.

Here is a link to Arthur's site on MySpace, to give you a flavor of his music. Arthur, Gil, and Alan also play a regular gig the third Saturday of each month at the Sunset Grill on Rt. 3 in Campton.

Just bumping this one up for another option for apres-48 flag activities. Guido (see post #38) may also stop by with his clarinet following Monroe.

Jim Hill, owner of TarryHo campground has offered a special pricing for partipants in the 8th annual Flags on the 48 event. Whether you are part of a flag group or just hiking to one of the peeks, if you want to camp someplace central to the mountains, this is the place to be.

Group camping on the River Sites will be $8 per person/per night.

Please contact Jim at 1-603-846-5577 to make a reservation. Please let him know that you are a participant in the Flags on the 48 event, how many in your group, which nights you will be staying, and how many/what size tents. Then let us know via a PM or email so we can help Jim coordinate folks.

In addition, Saturday after the hike, all participants are invited to hang out at our trailer at TarryHo, and use the grill, stove, microwave for dinner. Bring along your favorite beverage, some food to share, and let's tell stories about our experiences of the day. We will have chicken, steak tips, dogs and burgers to share, but please rsvp so we can judge how much we need to provide.

It's BYOB and BYOC (Chair!)

Jim will also have a bonfire after dark.
